At the tender but bold
age of 20, Kelly Abercrombie decided she would rather live in
Florida than her native Indiana. She had started working at a
local bank as a teller at age 16 and was already working her way
up. She moved to Sarasota after securing a job with a bank there.
Eventually, Kelly got into mortgage
banking. When she grew weary of the 70-hour work weeks, she discovered Allied’s
way of doing business. “I call them the Chick Filet of mortgage banking,” she
says. “They allow us to be entrepreneurs and run our own shop.” Now she co-owns
the branch of Allied Home Mortgage and only works 40-45 hours a week … which
leaves her time to pursue her other professional interest – real estate
development. Her most recent project, just finished, was a high rise condo at
Golden Gate Point.
Kelly is the exuberant owner of two
rescued Greyhounds, who she describes as “kind, loving, very gentle, and sleek
and beautiful when they run.” She would like more Greyhounds, but her husband
can’t quite go for more than two dogs. So she got one for her parents, who now
live nearby. She and her husband also enjoy boating and spending time with
family and friends.
