Meet Faux
Finisher-Decorative Painter
Cheri Youngblood
Friends convinced Cheri Youngblood to turn her hobby of decorative
painting and furniture refinishing into her profession. Even though
Cheri studied interior design in college, her early career took her
into restaurant management and then financial services. All the while,
she pursued her hobby. About the time she was finding it hard to do
both, friends were commenting that she should start her own business.
After getting experience working with a contractor for a few months,
where she says, “I got all the basic technical (painting) skills
down,” she went out on her own.
The business, now three years old, has grown entirely through word of
mouth, and Cheri employs her 14-year-old son during the summers.
Cheri, who grew up in Orlando, enjoys snowboarding and skiing with her
son several times a year. “Snowboarding is like surfing on snow,”
says Cheri, who surfed on Florida’s East Coast frequently during her
growing up years. She sky dives – again, with those friends – and
confirms that it is “very scary when you get up to the door to jump.
But you are tethered to someone else so you have no choice at that
point.”
